Trending Accessories to give your home that designer touch

If you want to take your room design to another level think accessories!!! Adding just the right elements can make your home look magazine worthy but what exactly are the perfect decor items to add?

To answer that question, I'm doing a couple of things. First, I have curated a design board with shopping options which I will email to you for FREE. I'm also talking about the top five accessories I add to staged homes and recommend to my clients in Fairfield and Westchester county and now my E-Design clients all over the country.

I have also added pictures of my projects to give you examples and to demonstrate where to place these accessories in your home.

1
A Leather Pouf (or Two)

Poufs are one of my favorites items because they are both on-trend and functional and look stylish in any room. Leather poofs in particular are super durable and can be used as a foot rest, a table and extra seating.

Poufs look great positioned as an ottoman and in pairs under a console that you can move around as needed. This is one of the most diverse items you can purchase giving you a lot of bang for your buck.

A Decorative Tray

Trays are another favorite accessory of mine because they add a layer of depth to a decorative arrangement and are practical as well. They are a must-have, when using at ottoman in place of a coffee table, to hold the remote, snacks and of course something pretty to look at.

You can also use a tray as the base of a decorative centerpiece. Then, place some books, a flower arrangement and a whimsical sculpture to create an interesting focal point on a table or a console. You can get really creative here. However you use your tray, your best bet is a simple one of durable material that has subtle detail and texture.

A Big Fiddle Leaf Fig Tree

Empty corners go from cold and stark to warm and attractive when you fill them with a fiddle leaf fig tree. In fact you may have noticed them in many interior design photos because they work with any design style and in any room of your house.

I often opt for the artificial kind because they look just as good as the real ones, require no maintenance and can be placed anywhere in the room without having to worry about sunlight.

For a dramatic effect go for one that is tall. Fiddle figs add a soft edge and a slice of nature that is pleasing to the eye. They add a pop of color to the room and look great in pairs and with table top greens too. If you have the space, you really can’t go wrong by adding a big fiddle leaf fig to a strategic spot.

Pretty Throw Pillows

Throw pillows may be small but they do so much. I consider them to be a necessary accessory when it comes to both comfort and style. A sofa without any throw pillows appears stark and uninviting. On the contrary a sofa with throw pillows makes you want to sit down and relax AND adds that visual finishing touch.

Throw pillows are an opportunity to add a pop of color, make a statement or blend into the decor scheme with neutrals and texture. There is so much to say about which style, color and size to choose as well as how they should be arranged.

That’s why this is a perfect project for E-Design requiring minimal cost and effort while achieving maximum results. We also make custom pillows in our workroom to help you complete any room design and to help you reinvigorate a tired space.

Don’t forget to add throw pillows to your outdoor furniture to make that more comfortable and cozy too.

Sculptures

Sculptures, geometric shapes and whimsical objects are a great way to add interest and insert your personality into your space. Your design style has no bearing on what kind of items you choose. Feel free to go classic, modern, coastal, equine or country and mix multiple styles together.

While you have a lot of flexibility here, it is important to choose pieces that will compliment vs. compete with your decor. Consider textures and colors that are reflective of your indoor design as well as what goes on outside in your geographic location. For instance, if you live near the coast you may want to add a nautical item or two. You can really have a lot of fun choosing your pieces and in the end you’ll have a space that is uniquely yours.
