Let's face it though, even the most well-trained pets shed, have occasional accidents and can be rough on your furniture. Not to mention the fact that they drag dirt in from the outside.

So I thought I would share with you some of the pet-friendly sofa options I give my clients in Fairfield and Westchester County.

In a pet-friendly home we look for materials that are casual, durable and easy to clean. You CAN have all of that and have a beautiful home too!!!!

Performance Fabric for the most part looks like any other but was designed with easy care, lasting beauty and heavy use in mind. The yarns themselves have a protective coating on them to prevent any absorption from liquids and in many cases prevent over exposure to the sun (sun fade resistance). I also recommend that my clients stain guard there furniture to act as an extra protection against stains.

These sectionals use performance fabric allowing you to have a light color without the worry 🙂

Two of my go-to performance fabrics are Crypton and Sunbrella.

Crypton is a revolutionary fabric designed for industrial and home use that can handle tough conditions and repeated cleaning.

Spills bead, stains are easy to remove and odors don't cling. You can choose from a variety of patterns, colors and textures making this a great option when designing a living space for a home with pets.

Sunbrella is something we think of using outdoors but the abundance of sophisticated patterns available today make it a smart choice for indoors too!!!

What makes it so great is that the dying process goes down to the core (not just the surface) so it is safe to clean without fear of color fading.

As an added bonus it's also UV stable making it fade resistant too.

Leather is a great option for pets because not only is it easy to clean, it repels fur and is rugged. Even though it's tough, fine leather can scratch. While, it is possible to buff scratches out you could get mixed results. So if it's really going to bother you consider a distressed look to camouflage those imperfections.

Slipcovers are a double pet-friendly option in that you can purchase them in durable fabrics such as canvas and denim and they can be removed and washed.

While all of these options are durable, they are not puncture proof, so make sure you keep up on your pet's pedicures. 🙂
