This renovation started because this client needed storage for her busy family and also wanted to create a home gym and recreation area. It was important to bring the natural light in so they excavated the stone and side of the house the add mason work with stairs and large double doors to allow light to stream in. The overall feeling they wanted to create was rustic but modern. By adding elements of barn wood in the framing, the media wall and the bar we created a rustic feeling but kept all other elements modern and transitional.
We used porcelain wood like tiles for the flooring throughout; we laminated the closets, cabinets, and cubbies to keep those looking clean and modern. The gym floor is rubberized, and one entire wall is mirrored. We added a ping pong table, pool table, foosball table with sports memorabilia to add color on the walls and show the allegiances for the family's favorite teams The sofa is extra long and custom by CR Laine as are the swivels chairs. We opted for four leather ottomans so that they could be used as a coffee table when together or extra seating when pulled away. The carpet is a nice rich shag which feels great underfoot.
The media wall has two TV’s and surround sound. The bar is quite special, with custom cabinetry, a mirrored back wall, and a leathered Negresco black granite countertop. We added a bistro table and stools for extra bar seating, as well as an additional seating area to the right of the media wall and bar. Lastly, we added a small wine cellar in a temperature controlled closet. While the entire house is perfectly lovely, this has become the spot the entire wants to be in!
