2019 Design Trends You’ll Want To Know

When it comes to design, nothing ever stays the same. That's what makes it so interesting and allows each of us to put our individual stamp on how we DECORATE and LIVE in our homes.

These are the hot new interior design trends for 2019 that I'm discussing with my Fairfield and Westchester County clients. If you are embarking on a whole house design, a redesign or just simply swapping out or adding some pieces, I suggest that you consider incorporating some of these elements into your home. These may be trends, but there is something here for EVERY decorating style.

Curves

One of the most significant design trends this year is the move from BOXY to SOFT edges. Instead of only rectangular and square pieces, round and gentle curves are showing up on EVERYTHING from upholstered pieces to accessories.

While the curvy look is a throwback, its return is of course slightly different 🙂 Today's rounded furniture incorporates modern shapes that are adding a lot of excitement to a room.

If you are looking to make a statement in your living space, a curved sofa in a bold lush fabric will add a lot of drama! Curves are also showing up on upholstered chairs, coffee tables, nightstands, bookshelves, poufs and lamps.

Hygge

Hygge is all about creating a beautiful space that is also very LIVABLE and COMFORTABLE. Pronounced hue-gah, it means adopting a lifestyle of noticing and appreciating simple things. In interior design terms that translates into living in your home in a snuggly way. Adding organic elements such as plants and relaxing by the fire or a lit candle is a perfect example.

To create hygge, some of the things I do is create window treatments that not only compliment the design of the space that also allow for maximum sunlight to stream into the home. I also use soft textures on upholstery especially on throw pillows and always add throws that not only look good but are usable too.

Botanicals

Florals are back but they're not the same patterns on your grandmas couch but rather BIG, BOLD and RICH in color. We are also seeing abstract and bright botanicals and in most cases these patterns tend to resemble works of art.

These grand florals and botanicals are showing up on walls, chairs and bedding. To brighten up a room in a chic new way, I suggest these as a great option for wallpaper in a half bath, the dining room and to create a feature wall in a bedroom.

Murals

Speaking of works of art, mural walls are a COST EFFECTIVE way to enrich a space at a much lower cost. Today's murals are not painted on as they were in the past but rather come in sheets ready to install. A much welcome advantage murals have over wallpaper and paint, is that they are much easier to put up and remove.

Murals can be in all kinds of patterns from geometric to floral and even outdoor scenes. They are a delightful addition to a children's room and a play space. Bottom line, not only are these design trends FUN, they are meant for EASY and TASTEFUL living.

The best thing about these not new design trends for 2019 is that they are elements that will make your home uniquely yours from both a usage and interior design perspective. This coupled with the fact that they are just downright FUN will result in a home that is not only comfortable to live in but INSPIRING as well.
