5 Kitchen Trends to Look for in 2019

Let's face it, no matter what your kitchen looks like, guests and family will always congregate in it. You just can't seem to get them out. 🙂 So why not take your Kitchen design a step further and consider one of these hot new trends.

Here are some of the design elements I have been working on with my Fairfield and Westchester clients.

Create a Feature Wall

That's right, feature walls aren't just for living spaces anymore!!! With Kitchens now completely open and a part of the family room why not make a big splash with a big backsplash!

I'm talking tile from the cabinet all the way up to the ceiling particularly on walls that have minimal cabinetry and appliances. Think sparse walls, open shelving and standout ranges and hoods with beautiful tile behind it to set the stage. It can be done with tile or stone wall panels. This incorporates your kitchen seamlessly into your living space while emphasizing an element that is soothing yet noticeable in a great way!!!!

Herringbone Pattern

Speaking of backsplashes, with today's modern clean lines, classic white subway tile fits right in. Why not opt to jazz it up with a herringbone pattern which, by the way, you can place straight up and down or sideways for an element of surprise. Add a darker grout for a little drama.

Don't feel you have to limit yourself to white porcelain. Carrera and glass are always great options!!! While your at it, if you are installing new floors you can carry this pattern over there too!!!

Black is Back

When it comes to Kitchens I love this line,
Black is the new White.
Black is IN so if you still have black counters on white cabinets you're trending!

However, I like to take design trends and use them in a new and fun way. So if I'm starting from scratch I'd do that in reverse for a modern twist with black cabinets and white counters.

You can use black as an accent color on an island, chairs and lighting OR for a bold industrial look go ALL black including appliances. Yep, black stainless is really catching on!

Wood Counters

Wood counters are an easy choice for a farmhouse look but they also add a lot of warmth to a modern space. In the past the only option was butcher block. Today, however, there are many different varieties of wood to choose from depending on your color and style preference and what you are looking for in terms of durability.

There's no doubt about it, wood counters can add a down-to-earth and rich vibe to your Kitchen and can be a unique show stopper when done right.

Waterfall Islands

A waterfall counter does not stop at the edge but rather extends over like a waterfall all the way down to the floor. If you have pets and children just make sure you choose a durable substance that can withstand some extra contact.

Because it is a focal point in the room, it's important to use a quality material that is worthy of the attention. Waterfall islands have a WOW factor and are a great way to modernize your Kitchen. And just look at those pendants!

I hope you found this helpful and remember ALL of these elements are FUN and can be incorporated into a new design or added to an existing space.
