Top Home Design Trends for 2024

As we move into the New Year there are some Interior Design trends we can see emerging, and we will be seeing a lot more of them for 2024.

The first is a return to the richness and warmth of leathers and plaids in luxurious shades of browns, reds, and greens-think Ralph Lauren. Lots of woven details, natural luxe details, stone walls, iron or metal elements, and textural qualities will still be very important. Wall treatments with wainscoting, board and batten, and fluting of all types in warm woods.

The second is red..all shades of red and brown. There have been a few red and brown pops in fashion, which will transcend to interior design. I predict warmer shades of red-like rust, burgundy, and terracotta – we will see more and more of these warm reds emerge in many accent pieces like pillows, throws, accessories, rugs, and art. Velvet chocolate browns that feel opulent and luxurious will emerge on walls and fabrics as the new “ Black”

The third is more is more- we are definitely leaning into a maximalist time, where adding extra is what it is all about. An understated decadence, if you will, for all things design. I definitely lean toward bolder, more eclectic designs and curating.

The fourth trend is Italian-inspired pieces like marble, stone, metals and tapestries. We will see more of these elements come forward and take center stage. Creating more character in our interiors going forward this year. Moving away from cold, impersonal spaces and infusing our personalities in our spaces to make each home unique and special.

The fifth trend is arches…everywhere! In architectural elements like doorways, furniture, mirrors, and some taking fresh forms.

The sixth trend that is here to stay in 2024 is Backsplash matching in the kitchen and bathrooms. This keeps the design more harmonious and luxurious, wrapping the counters and walls in a beautiful stone.

The seventh trend is statement tile and flooring. This has been around for a while but now we are seeing the pattern play of classic tiles and creating excitement through how we blend the colors and patterns of these tiles.

Lastly, the eighth trend is lighting, which is used to make an impact. Lighting should never be an afterthought- lighting can elevate a space and create a major visual moment.
