What is the Right Size Rug for My Bedroom?

One of the most common design mistakes is choosing a rug that is too small for the space. For a bedroom to feel grounded and intentional, your rug should act as an anchor for the entire bed area.

Width: The rug should extend wide enough so that you have at least 12–18 inches of soft surface on both sides of the bed. It should comfortably sit under your nightstands with a few inches to spare on the outside edges.

Length: Position the rug so it starts just in front of your nightstands. It should extend past the foot of the bed by at least two feet. This ensures that when you step out of bed, your feet land on a comfortable surface, and it provides enough visual "weight" to balance the room.

For a King Bed, an 8’ x 10’ or 9’ x 12’ rug is usually ideal. For a Queen Bed, look for a 7’ x 9’ or 8’ x 10’ to ensure the proportions feel just right.

By choosing a rug that fits the scale of your furniture, you create a sense of grounding that makes the entire room feel calm, purposeful, and beautifully pulled together.
