I just inherited a rather large piece of art from my aunt who lived in quite a large home. This piece is very sentimental to me but at first glance I think the rooms in my house are just too small. Are there any rules about the size of artwork one should hang over a sofa or a dining table?
How nice that you have a piece of art to enjoy and to remind you of your aunt! Generally speaking, the width of the piece should not exceed more than 2/3 of the width of the sofa or table. If you still feel the piece is too big and you still want to keep it, then consider rethinking other aspects of the room to have it be a focal piece and create balance in the room. I hope this helps you find the just right spot to showcase your aunt’s painting!
