Thanksgiving Tablescapes to Love
While the Holidays may not look or feel the same this year, perhaps a little planning can help get you in the Holiday spirit. If you are hosting Thanksgiving, it's time to plan not only your meal but your table scape! Designing the table is the most fun part of the meal planning. It’s where your inner artist gets to come out and be creative. As an autumn holiday, there is certainly a lot to choose from that will make a really pretty table.
Here’s some inspiration for your Thanksgiving table beginning with Traditional, moving on to Nature Inspired, then Monochrome and some really fun Whimsical ideas too. The last is my favorite, Mixing the Old with the New.
Traditional
Whether its formal or casual there’s nothing like sitting down to a traditional looking table for a traditional Thanksgiving meal. Whatever traditional means to you may not mean the same to me. We all have our own but when it comes to the table, a traditional one typically includes linen, candlesticks with tapers and a centerpiece. As seen in the photo above, you can add some elements to freshen up the traditional, things like: feathers, cotton flowers and wood chargers that work in nicely in this setting. In the photo below the addition of a silver dollar eucalyptus garland keeps the table from getting too formal.
Nature Inspired
Thanksgiving is the perfect holiday to include natural elements in your table scape because it reminds us of nature and the beautiful fall season. Think organic textures and rich earthy colors on everything from linens to glasses. Use natural elements in unexpected ways in free-form centerpieces and if you feel like getting crafty, do something festive like the twig candle holder below.
There's something elegant about anything monochrome and it's a great choice for any holiday table scape. To keep it interesting, though, add lots of texture on everything and anything. Add some surprising details like scattered eucalyptus and gourds to your centerpiece and finish it off with glam touches of shiny metal.

Not in the mood to stick with traditional colors and elements? NO problem, you do it your way. Go mostly fiesta style, coastal or whatever suits your mood. There are no rules in creating a Thanksgiving table scape, except of course, to end up with one that you will enjoy.
Mix Old with New
If you have serve ware favorites that you (and your family before you have collected) Thanksgiving is the perfect time to use it. You don’t have to do your table exactly like your mother used to or even how you did it last year. Add some magnolia, raffia, or grasses to liven it up.
Mix old and new pieces, combining whatever looks good together and that suits your fancy. I’m talking a sleek modern wine glass next to Grandma’s old silver.
Every time I see a pretty table scape it gives me an idea of something new I'd like to try on my own table. Hopefully you got some ideas too. Thanksgiving is almost here, so now..... it's time to start planning your table.
For that I suggest these five easy steps to keep you organized.
First, pick a color palette.
Next, choose your linens (table cloths, runners, napkins, napkin rings, placements & chargers)
Now, decide on your Tableware (plates, glasses & silverware)
Then, decide how you will serve drinks (wine bottles, carafes, pitchers) and anything else you want to put on your table. (salt & pepper, perhaps?)
and now..... design your Centerpiece (flowers, candles, pumpkins, etc.)
and last but not least!!!!
